HYANNIS – Passage of Ballot Question Four in yesterday’s election will have wide ranging ramifications on Cape Cod, according to Wendy Northcross, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

The law provides for mandatory sick leave for employees of companies with more than 10 workers.

Northcross says the measure could definitely impact seasonal business.

“Because it does exclude employers with 10 or fewer people but beyond that, because we have such a seasonal economy, and we have a workforce that grows by 25 percent in the summer time, and a lot of those people are doing front line service work and cannot be easily replaced if they are unable to come to work. The mandate will create additional burdens for those seasonal business where the number of workers fluctuates.”

Northcross went on to say that the Chamber is available to help business navigate the new law.
