Hyannis Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

HYANNIS – The TD Bank on Main Street in Hyannis was robbed Thursday night but police were able to arrest a suspect within hours of the crime.

The robbery is the fourth bank robbery on Cape Cod in the last ten days. Other banks were robbed in Osterville, Sandwich and Pocasset. Police say yesterday’s robbery is not connected to the others.

Barnstable Police responded to the bank at 5:40 p.m. Thursday evening.

Police say they set up surveillance around Hyannis based on the direction that the suspect fled.

At around 10 p.m., the suspect was discovered in the area of the Airport Rotary as a passenger in a minivan. When authorities attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver tried to avoid the police and struck two of their cruisers.

Police arrested Shainah Lopes of Hyannis and the alleged driver of the minivan, Brianna McCarron, 26, of West Yarmouth.

Lopes is charged with unarmed robbery, as well as larceny of a person from an incident that happened on North Street earlier in the day on Thursday.

McCarron faces motor vehicle charges, police said.

Lopes has a history of both larceny and resisting arrest, police said.

Last month, she was sentenced to 59 days in Barnstable County Correctional Facility after escaping from a police cruiser in August. The judge gave Lopes credit for 36 days served, leaving her 23 days to serve.

Both women were arraigned at Barnstable District Court Friday, Lopes was held on $25,000 cash bail. McCarron was released on personal recognizance.
