Barnstable 375th Anniversary Fireworks To Light Up Lewis Bay Tonight

fireworksHYANNIS – The Town of Barnstable 375th Committee invites all residents of Barnstable and Cape Cod and visitors to participate in a variety of 375 birthday celebrations, including a fireworks display on Saturday, August 30.

The fireworks, which will be shot off a barge Lewis Bay at dusk, are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday..Atlas Fireworks of New Hampshire will set off the fireworks.

Parking will be available in the North Street parking lots and Town Hall parking lot. Tow zones will be strictly enforced and carpooling is suggested.

The best viewing locations for this year’s fireworks will be Aselton Park, Bismore Park, Veteran’s Park Beach and Kalmus Beach.

A parking ban will be in effect from 5 p.m. to midnight on streets south of South Street to allow for pedestrian access. The roads affected by the ban Ocean Street, Old Colony Boulevard, Gosnold Street and all streets running off of Gosnold Street.

The rain date for the fireworks is Sunday.

A pre-fireworks concert from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aselton Park at corner of South and Ocean streets in, Hyannis will feature the band, Groovy Afternoon.

No vendors are allowed during the events.

The next big event in Barnstable’s 375th Anniversary Celebration is the Town Picnic on the Hyannis Village Green from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 21.

The evening of September 21 is a Barnstable 375th Anniversary Celebration concert featuring the Cape Symphony. The concert is  8 p.m. at Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center at 744 West Main Street in Hyannis.

Among the concert’s highlights will be a performances by Siobhan Magnus and Grammy nominated jazz artist, Kate McGarry singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow with music you know and love, like When You Believe, Danny Boy, All My Tomorrows, and of course, Old Cape Cod.

There will also be the world premiere of Seven Faces of a Stone, composer Brett Abigaña’s musical tribute to the seven villages of  Barnstable.

Tickets are $25 each. All tickets are general admission.
