Barnstable Airport Receives Grant from Federal Government

imsis243-042HYANNIS – Over $12.5 million in infrastructure improvement grants have been awarded to municipal airports in New Bedford, Plymouth and Hyannis.

US Congressman William Keating was among those that announced the grants recently, which include over $3 million to the New Bedford Regional Airport and more than $2 million Barnstable Airport for taxiway rehabilitation.

“This is fantastic news,” said Barnstable Airport Manager Roland “Bud” Breault.

“We appreciate the efforts of Congressman Keating—as well as the Department—to include the discretionary funding in this grant, as the formula funding on its own would not have been enough for us to complete the projects and improve the safety of the airport.”

Plymouth Municipal Airport received over $7 million for a runway extension project.

“Regional airports are of vital importance to our local economies, bringing both tourists and commercial goods alike,” said Keating. “These grants will ensure that our airports are operating at peak performance for years to come.”
