Barnstable and Bristol County Drug Courts Receive Grants

157867210 (1)BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Trial Court has been awarded two federal grants totaling nearly $1.4 million to expand services offered to juveniles in the Bristol County Juvenile Drug Court and to adults participating in the Barnstable Drug Court.

Trial Court Chief Justice Paula Carey says the grants come at a pivotal time as the state tries to stem an epidemic of opioid overdoses. She said the funding will help strengthen connections between the courts and local treatment service providers.

The Barnstable Drug Court now serves approximately 50 to 55 court-involved adults each year on Cape Cod. The Bristol County Juvenile Drug Court will serve 105 court-involved adolescents in Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton over two years.

Drug courts provide court-supervised probation and mandated treatment focusing on treating the issues underlying criminal behavior.
