BARNSTABLE – Students in Barnstable returned to school this week with technology improvements to aid their education.
In recent months, the district has purchased over 2,000 Chromebooks, and 230 iPads.
The district has added a green screen, 3D printer and several new programs engineering kits for grades K through 7.
The district has also partnered with Project lead the Way for a Pathway to Engineering Program for high school students.
The program investigates topics like aerodynamics and astronautics, biological engineering and sustainability and digital electronics and circuit design.
Along with providing the latest tech for students the district is also making an effort to keep teachers and staff up-to-date on effective ways to educate students.
In the spring, Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown requested more professional development half days for teachers.
Professional half days will be held September 13, November 29, January 10, February 14, March 14, April 11 and May 2. A full professional day will be held October 6 resulting in no school for students.
Barnstable is the largest Cape school system and educates more than 5,000 students and employs more than 900 people.
