CENTERVILLE – The Barnstable Board of Health has agreed to reinstate the Craigville Motel’s license, allowing for the business to accept paying guests for the first time since 2015.

The approval is contingent on a condition that the motel becomes a franchise operation within 30 days.

The license is limited to 32 rooms at the motel and the business has to receive a passing grade inspection from Wyndham Hotel Group within 30 days.

If the motel passes, it would be allowed to operate as a Knights Inn.

“We’re pleased that this property will get back in business,” said Barnstable Assistant Town Attorney Charles McLaughlin. “I know that the property owners have had a chance to reflect on the importance of compliance on all aspects and we can only hope that, that understanding is carried forth in their actions.”

A number of inspections have taken place recently at the facility from the Barnstable Public Health Division, Building Department and West Barnstable Fire Department.

“There’s lots of opportunity for missteps, so I just am confident that we’re all heading in the right direction and this hopefully will close this out,” said McLaughlin.

The rooms in the basement of the building are not allowed to be open since they were not inspected.

The motel closed in 2015 after housing long-term tenants and a having a number of building code violations.
