Barnstable Clean Water Coalition Asks for Donations

OSTERVILLE – A citizen’s group in Osterville is calling for support and donations as they work to provide funds to restore and preserve clean water in Barnstable.

The Admiral’s Watch partners with the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition to protect more than 12,000 acres of watershed, including the 1,200-acre estuary made up of West, North, and Cotuit bays.

The group says that water quality has a major economic impact on Cape Cod homeowners. A 2015 report from the Cape Cod Commision revealed that each 1 percent decline in local water quality results in a .61 percent decline in property values.

The organization says that nitrogen pollution can be mitigated by deploying non-traditional technologies and traditional approaches. Without tackling the issue, Admiral’s Watch argues that the investment homeowners have made in Osterville and Barnstable could be at stake.
