HYANNIS – The Barnstable Town Council will discuss plans next week to have a municipal pier buit in the Three Bays area.

A hearing will be held October 19 to appropriate $30,000 to evaluate design and permit the pier.

Town officials believe that their marine services, dredge maintenance program, aquaculture program and comprehensive water management program will benefit from a municipal pier in the three bays area.

If the appropriation is approved, staff could then evaluate options to site a pier, then proceed to design and permit the facility.

Once the pier is designed, another appropriation request will follow to cover the construction cost of the project.

The town could also recover revenues from users of the pier to offset costs of constructing and maintaining the facility.
