HYANNIS – The jobless rate remained at 2.9 percent for the third consecutive month in September.
The national unemployment rate is at 3.5 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate in Barnstable County rose to 2.8% in September, up from 2.5% in August.
The state lost around 1,000 jobs in September according to estimates, which accounts for 600 jobs in the private sector. The government sector also lost jobs across the span of the month.
From September 2018 to September 2019, 35,300 jobs were added in Massachusetts.
The statewide labor force grew by 2,500 from August, which brings the estimated total of the labor force to 3,839,900.
The Barnstable County labor force in September was estimated to be just over 119,000.
