FALMOUTH – There’s a fair in the air on Cape Cod, with the Barnstable County Fair opening the gates today for its 172nd season.

The 2016 event promises seven days of music, rides and attractions that highlight the culture and agricultural history of Cape Cod and the Islands. The fair runs through Sunday.

Monday’s headlining event in the Main Arena is the FMX Motocross Trials. The popular Demolition Derby is planned for Wednesday.

On the grounds, the fair welcomes back the Sea Lion Splash show. The act, which last appeared at the fair in 2012, is made up of rescued sea lions who would otherwise not be allowed to survive in the wild because of sickness, age or injuries.

The fan favorite Birds of Prey show also returns this year, which features rescued hawks, eagles, owls and other birds of prey.

There are also two new amenities this year, including a Beer Garden and the Artisan Market. Highlighting the best artisans from Cape Cod and New England, the Artisan Market is a curated marketplace of artists, crafters and jewelers.

The Beer Garden will be located in the Food Loop and adds macro and craft beer options to the Fair.

Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals, Eric Paslay, Sister Hazel, and High Valley headline the fair’s main stage musical lineup.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with the fair beginning at noon Friday through Sunday.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under
