Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission Announces 2019 Award Winners

BARNSTABLE–The Barnstable County Human Rights Advisory Commission has announced the winners of the 2019 Rosenthal, Cornerstone, and Tim McCarthy Awards.

Barnstable County Innovation School was presented with the Rosenthal Community Champion Award, which recognizes those in the public sector who support and advance the ideals and concepts of human rights. The school has notably embraced a culturally diverse population, and increased awareness of family struggles in a student’s life among its staff.

The Cornerstone Award was given to Cape Cod People Against the Trafficking of Humans, for their efforts in eliminating trafficking on the Cape and raising awareness of the problem through education and collaboration.

Reverend Brenda Haywood has been given the Tim McCarthy Human Rights Champion Award. Haywood, the community minister and pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House of Provincetown, has dedicated her life to teaching children about issues surrounding topics such as race, peace, and empowerment.
