Barnstable County Human Rights Commission to Host Breakfast Event

HYANNIS – The Barnstable Human Rights Commission is celebrating International Human Rights Day on Monday with a breakfast event at Hyannis Golf Course.

The event will include the annual presentation of the Cornerstone and Rosenthal awards for advancing human rights in Barnstable County.

“This is a day where we celebrate both the accomplishments of those who foster to support and secure human rights for everyone,” said Barnstable representative to the Commission Theresa Santos.

The Rosenthal Community Champion Award is given to those in the public sector who are recognized as individuals who have fostered and supported human rights.

This year’s recipient is Cape Air CEO and former State Senator Dan Wolf.

The Cornerstone Award is given to individuals recognized by their peers, community and associates as those who have fostered and supported human rights, concepts and ideals.

This year’s recipient is the Cape and Islands Special Olympics.

“Human rights are alive and well and the need is still strong to ensure that they are not being violated and we celebrate folks who foster that endeavor on a daily basis,” said Santos.

The guest speaker of the breakfast is Gretchen Arvanitopoulos, the Vice President of CORD (Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled).
