Barnstable County Real Estate Sales Volume and Value Dip in September

HYANNIS – The Barnstable County Register of Deeds reports that real estate sales volume and total value dropped in September, but are still up year to date.

The volume of real estate sales was down 5.5 percent from September of 2016 and the total value of sales was down 3.6 percent over the previous year.

The median individual property sale value was up 5.7 percent from September of 2016.

“An okay month, obviously we’d like to see the volume being better than what it is, but not terrible and we’re still ahead for the year,” said Register of Deeds Jack Meade.

For the year to date, the volume of sales is up 3.6 percent over last year and the total value of sales is up 6.1 percent. The individual sales value is up 4.5 percent.

The median sale price for the month of September was $370,000.

That is tied with May’s median as the highest in the last 12 months.

“It may just be that we hit a point where it’s a little tougher to find properties for sale in the $300,000 range,” said Meade.

The amount of mortgage activity fell 25.7 percent from levels in September of 2016 and is down 6.3 percent for the year to date.
