BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable County Register of Deeds is reporting that the volume of real estate sales in July was down 9.1 percent from July 2015 volume and the total value of sales was down 1.5 percent from the previous year.

Jack Meade also reported that the median individual property sale value was up 5.8 percent from July 2015 and there was an 8 percent decrease in the volume of mortgage activity from last year.

“We had a good month, it’s just it didn’t match up to last year,” said Meade. “Last July was a strong one, one of the stronger ones we’ve had in a while. I think that was due to the later start of the season due to the snow.”

So far this year, the volume of sales is up over 12 percent, the total value of sales is up 13.8 percent, individual sales value up 1.5 percent and mortgage volume is up 1.9 percent.

The median sale price of property in Barnstable County last month was $338,500, up from $320,000 from July 2015.

Meade said that the numbers don’t surprise him too much, although he is expecting better numbers in the fall.

“This is typically a quieter time, in mid-summer people aren’t really looking at homes as much as they are, I think, in the spring and the fall,” said Meade.
