BARNSTABLE – The volume of real estate sales in Barnstable County last month was up 22 percent from August 2015 volume and the total value of sales was up over 26 percent from the previous year.

There was also a 33.5 percent increase in the volume of mortgage activity from August 2015 levels.

The median individual property sale value was down more than 1 percent from the previous year, with the median sale price around $334,000.

“We’re seeing a ton of activity in the lower end of the market and I think that’s a positive sign in the sense that maybe it means a lot of new folks are getting into this market, who had been maybe on the sidelines for a while, made the plunge into getting a new home,” said Barnstable County Register of Deeds Jack Meade.

So far this year, the volume of sales is up 13.5 percent, total value of sales is up 15 percent, individual sales value up 1.5 percent and mortgage volume is up 5.3 percent.

“This is a good sign that people are keeping busy and the market is active,” said Meade. “I think interest rates, being as low as they are, will obviously continue to help on that end.”
