Barnstable County’s SHINE Program Receives $25K Grant

barnstable county symbolBARNSTABLE – Barnstable County’s SHINE program received a $25,000 Community Benefits grant from Cape Cod Healthcare to support health insurance counseling and assistance to Barnstable County residents.

The program, which stands for ‘Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone’, utilizes a network of 50 highly trained counselors who work one-on-one with seniors, people with disabilities and their families to explain health insurance options.

There are currently over 70,000 people on Medicare in Barnstable County and many of those who need assistance are the elderly or females living alone.

The Cape and Islands SHINE program assisted over 6,900 people last year.

The SHINE program services are free to the public.
