BARNSTABLE – The Town of Barnstable has established a fund aimed at helping the elderly and disabled pay their real estate taxes.

Town Councilors have opted in to a state law that allows municipalities to create a fund to defray the taxes of those in need. The fund will be made possible through voluntary check off taxpayers can make on their real estate tax bills.

The money will then be distributed through an annual award process. Applications for assistance can be picked up at the Barnstable Senior Center or can be found at the town’s website. Paperwork can also be obtained through the town’s treasurer’s office.

Applications are due by November 30 and the awards will be announced by the end of the year.
