Barnstable DPW Conducting Hydrant Marking Project Throughout Hyannis

COURTESY OF THE BARNSTABLE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE Inmates help shovel out hydrants on Main Street in Buzzards Bay on Tuesday.

HYANNIS – The Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works Water Supply Division has started a fire hydrant marking project that will label the fire flow capacity at each hydrant in the Hyannis Water System.

All of the fire hydrants in the Hyannis Water System will be marked as part of the effort.

The project is expected to be completed in the spring.

The project was initiated by a change in insurance regulations governing the rate setting structure for property insurance.

Barnstable DPW officials say that the Hyannis Water System is striving to achieve the maximum credit so that the community will get the best property insurance rates.
