Barnstable DPW Dredging Cotuit Bay and Sampson’s Island

HYANNIS – Work is underway by the Barnstable Department of Public Works to dredge the Cotuit Bay Entrance Channel and the western tip of Sampson’s Island.

This phase of the project will widen the existing channel by approximately 130 feet.

The dredged material will be utilized for beach nourishment purposes on the southern side of the eastern end of the island and for a habitat enhancement area.

Dredging operations are taking place Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 5:00pm until completion of the project.

It’s expected that the phase of the work will be completed by January 15.
Barnstable DPW is working in collaboration with Three Bays Preservation, Massachusetts Audubon, and Barnstable County for the dredging project.
