Barnstable Field Projects Receives Additional Million

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable School Committee is requesting over a million dollars in additional funding for the additions to the Barnstable High School Field Complex.

The need for additional funding is due to increased building and construction costs.

“Our original estimate was purely that. It was for a master plan, it was already two years before we started, the numbers were older numbers. We got it received in 2016, we went out to bid in 2018,” said Barnstable Director of School Faculty David Kanyock.

The cost of the proposed press box, restroom and concession buildings has nearly doubled.

“We had an original estimate of 450,000 for the buildings, right now we have an estimate of 863,000 dollars for the same buildings, and it’s from suppliers and contractors,” said Kanyock.

The total estimate of the project is now 1,085,000 dollars.

“Updated cost estimates indicate that the overall building structure cost including design construction contingencies are estimated to be around 1,085,040 dollars.”

Funding would be provided from a general obligation bond issue and repayment of the bond would come from the towns general fund budget.

Town Manager Mark S Ellis had recommended approval of the Appropriation and Loan order, and the order was approved by Town Council.
