BARNSTABLE – At a recent meeting, members of the Barnstable Town Council were treated to a tour of the town’s newly redesigned Business Barnstable website.

Barnstable’s Planning and Development Department’s Economic Development Specialist Mike Trovato led the presentation, which included the town’s new Business and Permitting Guide.

“These business resource tools are easy to navigate and offer pertinent information for anyone looking to do business in Barnstable, from the small ‘mom & pop’ shops to a corporate enterprise” said Trovato.

The guide, which is not yet available to the public, is designed to help those looking to start a business in the Cape’s largest town better understand the municipal permitting, licensing and zoning process.

The interdepartmental collaboration aims to answer many commonly asked questions when opening businesses in retail, food establishments, service facilities, and office entities. The guide contains information about licensing, permits, regulatory review, and business certificates, as well as checklists and key contact information.

Trovato explained that while Hyannis is the Cape’s business hub, these policies will help local business owners in each of the town’s seven villages, “While Hyannis is our commercial hub, there are areas in each of the seven villages of Barnstable that are unique from each other, offering a diversified palette of opportunities for business owners to choose from.”

The Business Barnstable website was created to provide an online, comprehensive, one-stop resource to assist with new business start-ups or expansions, and to send a clear message that Barnstable is ‘Open for Business’.

Trovato told counselors that the site is easily-navigable, with sections which include: “The Barnstable Advantage”; “Business Development and Permitting”; and “Business Assistance and Resources” and contain links to key resources at the Town, State and Federal levels.

The site is available at BusinessBarnstable.com.
