HYANNIS – Barnstable police say a man they arrested on West Main Street yesterday is one of the biggest heroin dealers on Cape Cod.
Over the past year, Barnstable and Yarmouth Detectives along with the Drug Enforcement Administration Cape Cod Task Force have been conducting an extensive heroin trafficking investigation targeting Terrell Mair, 27, of Randolph.
Police say Mair is one of the Cape’s most significant heroin traffickers and is suspected of bringing large quantities of heroin onto the Cape from Boston and Fall River.
The investigation involved multiple search warrants as well as extensive long term surveillance of Mair and his associates, which extended to Boston, Fall River and Rhode Island.
As part of the case, police said they recorded undercover purchases, totaling approximately 80 grams of heroin, through Mair.
On Thursday, detectives attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop to arrest Mair on West Main Street in Hyannis.
As detectives approached, they said Mair was found to be tearing open a plastic bag of heroin and attempting to dissolve the heroin in a beverage container in his vehicle.
Mair was placed under arrest on a Barnstable District Court arrest warrant charging distribution of heroin, one count of trafficking heroin 18-36 grams, one count of Trafficking Heroin 36-100 grams and one count of Trafficking Heroin 200 plus grams.
The 200 plus grams Trafficking charge carries a minimum mandatory 12-year prison sentence.
Mercedes Pearson
Both Mair and his female passenger, Mercedes Pearson, 20, of Plymouth face an additional charge of possession of heroin with intent to distribute from the heroin seized from the motor vehicle stop.
Following the arrests, detectives seized a loaded .40 caliber pistol from Terrell Mair’s Randolph apartment.
Both Mair and Pearson were to be arraigned Friday in Barnstable District Court. In total, Detectives seized approximately 400 grams of heroin and a loaded pistol during the investigation.
The street value of the heroin is approximately $75,000.
