Barnstable Public Schools Looking To Upgrade Athletic Fields

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable Public School System is looking at upgrading its athletic fields.

A committee has been established by Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown to examine the condition of the fields and put together a plan for some improvements. The Committee has been meeting for the last six months and the school department has made the proposed upgrades their top capital project focus for Fiscal Year 2019.

“Our students deserve to play on higher quality fields,” said Mayo-Brown.

The Barnstable School Committee will hold a workshop on the matter at the Barnstable Intermediate School on January 31 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

A few years ago, the school system began looking into potential upgrades, but discussions were slowed down over cost concerns.

The current Master Field Plan Ad Hoc Committee is made up of school staff and members of the community. The group is working on specific plans for field upgrades and how to finance the project.
