HYANNIS – Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells recently met with members of the Homeless Subcommittee to discuss communication strategy.

A plan is underway to reach out to all state, county, and nonprofits working to provide social services in the community to improve communication with the town.

“This is an effort to better coordinate and better plan for what is happening relevant to this sort of service that’s certainly needed on Cape Cod,” said Ells.

Ells said the town is asking to participate in the future plans of the organizations.

“Certainly, it’s our town and it is our village of Hyannis and we want to be a part of what’s occurring here,” he said.

Ells said maintaining constant communication is critical.

“Sometimes we find out after the fact when they are embarking on efforts such as siting facilities here in the town of Barnstable and certainly in the village of Hyannis,” Ells said.

Ells wants to make sure there is a broader regional look at where the need is for services.

“I think that the support should follow the need and we want to make sure that that’s the way it’s being viewed, certainly in the planning stages,” he said. “I think by engaging the various state, county and other agencies we can do a better job at that and that is what we are trying to do.”
