BARNSTABLE – The town of Barnstable has received recognition for its use of renewable solar energy.

The honor comes after a study conducted by the International City/County Management Association, which studied 27 municipalities across the country looking for themes and insights on successful solar energy use.

The study found Barnstable achieved the highest solar energy capacity in Massachusetts, and has the third most solar installations of any municipality in the state. The town was also credited for local government collaboration, strong local and state leadership, leadership by the town manager, and for having strong renewable energy infrastructure.

The research was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy.
