Barnstable Schools Closed Again Thursday Due to Excessive Heat, Bourne to Operate on Half-Day Schedule

HYANNIS – Barnstable Public Schools will remain closed tomorrow due to the excessive heat and Bourne Public Schools will operate on a half-day schedule.

Barnstable Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown says many of the buildings remain too warm and that she wants the first day of school to be a positive experience for all students.

The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 4 for grades 1 through 12. Kindergarten orientation will take place on Tuesday, September 4. The first day for Kindergarten students will be Wednesday, September 5. Preschool Orientations will remain as scheduled for tomorrow, August 30.

Bourne schools will also have no afternoon kindergarten Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to upper-80s Thursday.

Barnstable and Bourne Public Schools were closed due to the heat today.
