HYANNIS – Barnstable Public Schools Superintendent Meg Mayo-Brown discussed her entry plan with Barnstable Town Council this week.

Mayo-Brown, who was appointed to the position in December 2015 and started on July 1, created an entry plan that would help guide her developing understanding of the school district, creating the foundation for her collective planning and decision making.

“That’s an opportunity to really hear from both internal stakeholders and stakeholders from the broader community, to learn where the system has been, where it stands, and collectively where we would we like to go together,” said Mayo-Brown.

Her pre-entry activities have included opportunities to “listen and learn” in classrooms in eight of Barnstable’s nine schools and meeting with district staff.

Mayo-Brown said she has also held small informal focus groups with students, teachers, parents and community members.

There are three phases to Mayo-Brown’s entry plan, including the learning phase which goes until December 31, the sharing phase which goes from January 1-February 28, 2017 and a sense making and planning phase which runs from March 1-July 1, 2017.

“In order to lead that journey, it’s important for me to be able to gain perspective from others and collect feedback, so that’s really my goal and purpose,” said Mayo-Brown.

Mayo-Brown was previously the superintendent of the Fall River School District and replaced from Barnstable Schools Superintendent Mary Czajkowski, who took the same position with the Lexington School District.
