Barnstable Superintendent Offered Lexington Job

BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Superintendent of Schools Mary Czajkowski has been offered the superintendent of schools position in Lexington.

The Lexington School Committee voted for Czajkowski out of three finalists Friday.

Czajkowski has been the Barnstable superintendent since August of 2011.

The other finalists for the Lexington position included a deputy superintendent of a school district outside of Chicago and the Scarborough, Maine superintendent.

Czajkowski visited Lexington and interviewed for the position Thursday.

According to Lexington School Committee Chair Margaret Coppe, there will be a visit to Barnstable, a background check and salary negotiation.

Coppe said Lexington’s current superintendent Paul Ash is retiring.

Ash has served since 1995 and earns $279,000, she said.

The Lexington School District has 6,600 children in nine schools including six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.

Barnstable’s school department has 4,000 children in seven schools, including five elementary schools, one middle school, one intermediate school and one high school.
