Barnstable Village ‘Streetscape Project’ Making Progress

BARNSTABLE-  The Town of Barnstable Department of Public Works held a public meeting Wednesday to discuss the ‘Barnstable Village Streetscape Project’ geared at improving current conditions in that section of town.

“The plans are approximately 25 percent completed and the community is going to look at these plans, and hopefully approve them, because construction is supposed to start on the street improvements this fall,” said Joe Berlandi, President of the Barnstable Village Association.

“The parts of the contract that will commence will be new sidewalks, red brick sidewalks, new poles, and periodic fixtures,” The improvements will stretch from Main Street (Route 6A) from West of Rendezvous Lane to Millway, and along Millway from Main Street to the Barnstable Harbor Marina.”

“The primary purpose of this plan is to provide safety for pedestrians and traffic going through Main Street. So we have been working on this for 8 years and now we are at a point that the money is here. The DPW has $2 million dollars and this contract should cover that, and should get all the things done,” said Berlandi.

In addition to new sidewalks and streetscapes, new and re-surfaced pavement, median islands, and tree plantings, and more are expected.

The projects limits, scope, and schedule are going to be based on the appropriated funding and other factors.

The work should continue through 2019.
