Three Organizations Receive Money From Cape & Islands Plate Program

BARNSTABLE – Three grants of $10,000 have been awarded through the Barnstable County License Plate Grant Program.

The Cape Cod Commission, on behalf of the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners and the Barnstable County Economic Development Council, made the announcement last week.

“While they’re small grants–they’re $10,000–it’s really important to be able to put this money back into the local economy,” said Cape Cod Commission Executive Director Kristy Senatori said.

The Town of Yarmouth received a grant to conduct a study to determine future uses and potential upgrades for the former Laurence MacArthur Elementary School.

Friends or Relatives with Autism and Related Disabilities (FORWARD) was given funding for a task force and market analysis to identify the need for new affordable supportive rental housing for those with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

A local NPR station will get money for covering climate change.

Senatori and the rest of the Cape Cod Commission want this program to be expanded in the future.

“Hopefully, the Cape and Islands plate is a funding source that can be sustained in the long term,” she continued.

“It’s certainly very critical to furthering economic development in the region.”

All projects funded by the grants are required to align with the Cape Cod Commission’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.
