Bas Relief of Kennedy Boat Unveiled at Airport

HYANNIS – The Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network unveiled a Bas Relief of President John F. Kennedy’s sailboat Victura last week at the Barnstable Municipal Airport.

“The Victura” is a six foot by four foot multi media bas relief of the boat, which has been restored and is at the JFK Library in Boston. It was designed by CapeCodCan Mosaic Director and local artist Chris Reverdy in cooperation with CCC Art Director Donna Rockwell and over 100 other members of the art community.

The sculpture was conceived in honor of JFK’s 100th birthday and is the final project in the “On the Move” visual art curriculum which also featured original art and craft pieces exhibited at the HyArts Shanties in June.

Creation of the piece received support from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Cape Cod Foundation, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and CARE for the Cape and Islands. Support was also provided by the JFK Hyannis Museum and the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
