Bass River Bridge Repairs Start Monday

A major repair project on the Bass River Bridge in Dennis and Yarmouth will result in traffic delays that will last into early July.

Work begins Monday, April 14 at 7 AM.

Yarmouth Deputy Chief of Police Steven G. Xiarhos is asking that drivers seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is in charge of the work because the road is a state highway.

Preparation work to repair the bridge will take place weekdays beginning at 7 AM for the next two weeks and will consist of temporary barrier deployment, painting of pavement markings and the installation of temporary supports.

Police say, two lanes of traffic will be maintained during the repairs, except while the temporary barrier and pavement markings are being placed, when drivers should expect interruptions.

The Bass River Bridge sidewalk will be blocked during the repairs, which will focus on deteriorated reinforced concrete piers.

The first phase of the repairs is expected to continue into the first week of July.
