‘Be Well Wareham’ Wellness Initiative Kicks off Saturday

southcoast logoWAREHAM – A new wellness initiative in Wareham kicks off Saturday.

Southcoast Health is partnering with the Gleason Family YMCA and Voices for a Healthy Southcoast to start “Be Well Wareham.”

The initiative will provide free programs to residents including, walks, and other nutrition events.

“We want to give people opportunities to do healthy active things within their community so it’s convenient for them,” said Kerry Mello, the health benefits manager for Southcoast Health.

The first “Be Well Wareham” program feature a wellness walk with Southcoast Health cardiologist Dr. Ashwini Sahni which will be followed by a free yoga class. The event starts at 10 a.m. at the Gleason Family YMCA on Charge Pond Road.

According to Southcoast Health, walking just 30 minutes a day can decrease your risk of many health problems including heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

“We’re hoping to kind of start small – maybe a program once a month,” Mello said.

The main impetus to start the initiative came from Southcoast physicians from the Rosebrook facility in Wareham.

“[They] were looking to create some free, convenient opportunities for their patients to be active and healthy,” Mello said.

All programs are free and no registration is required. For more information contact Mello by email at [email protected] or call 508-973-5273.
