Beach Fees to Increase at Cape Cod National Seashore

BallstonBeachEASTHAM – It’s going to cost a little bit more to park your car or motorcycle at Cape Cod National Seashore beaches this summer.

A daily pass for a motor vehicle is going up from $15 to $20, while a motorcycle pass will increase from $5 to $10. Pedestrian and bicycle fees remain the same at $3.

Superintendent George Price announced a new fee structure Monday that will go into effect on May 22.

“This is the first increase in our entrance fees since 2005. We appreciate the feedback we received from the community,” said Price. A total of 59 comments were received on the fee increase proposal.

“Many people expressed concern that the proposed increase of the individual fee from $3 to $10 was unreasonable and contrary to the National Park Service commitment to encouraging bicycle and pedestrian access to our six beautiful beaches,” Price said.

Beach fees are collected from late June through Labor Day at all six beaches, including Coast Guard and Nauset Light in Eastham; Marconi Beach in Wellfleet; Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro; and Race Point Beach and Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown.

A season-long pass will increase from $45 to $60 per vehicle. A lifetime Senior Pass can be purchased for $10 by people 62 years and older.

Eighty percent of the revenue collected at the Seashore stays on Cape Cod to support park operations and maintenance projects, such as the cost of lifeguards, services at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, youth programs and improvements to trails.

Seashore staff can apply for the other 20% collected, which are management federally, for additional projects such as the recent $5 million bathhouse and concession complex at Herring Cove.
