Best Stuffed Quahog Contest to Benefit HAC

QuahogChallengeWEST YARMOUTH – A contest will be held on Sunday at Trader Ed’s in West Yarmouth to find out which restaurant makes the best stuffed quahog on Cape Cod.

The Housing Assistance Corporation on Cape Cod is holding the inaugural event as a fundraiser.

The non-profit, which is in its 41st year, offers a number of housing programs on Cape Cod. HAC develops affordable housing, operates four homeless shelters, and holds educational workshops for first-time homebuyers and those looking to rebuild their credit. The agency offers foreclosure counseling and programs for improving the energy efficiency of homes for low-income residents. It also operates homeless prevention programs designed to help residents stay in their homes when they are facing financial difficulties.

Money raised through the Quahog Challenge will support all of HAC’s programs.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to sample some of the tastiest stuffed quahogs around while also making a positive difference in their community,” said Housing Assistance Corporation’s event coordinator Deanna Bussiere.

The restaurants competing for the best stuffed quahog are The Improper Bostonian in Dennisport, Lost Dog Pub in Dennis, O’Shea’s Olde Inn in West Dennis, the Pilot House Restaurant in Sandwich, Red Face Jack’s Pub & Sports Bar in Yarmouth, Spanky’s Clam Shack in Hyannis and the Wicked Quahog in Falmouth.

All the restaurants are looking to be recognized as having the best “stuffie,”−as stuffed quahogs are known−on this side of the Cape Cod Canal. But the competitors also know the event is about helping the community.

“It’s going to a great cause,” said Jane Murphy, co-owner of Lost Dog Pub. “It’s supporting housing efforts on Cape Cod.”

Tickets for the event are $20, with children 10 or under free. Admission includes a free sample of Polar Cave Ice Cream, a free sampling of Narragansett Beer and free tastings of stuffed quahogs.

Those in attendance will also vote for which Cape Cod restaurant makes the best stuffed quahog.

There will also be live music performed by Four Guys Cape Cod, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and an appearance by Doug the Quahog.
