Big 3 Fishing Tourney Raises Over $385K for Big Brothers Big Sisters

HARWICH – A fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands raised more than $385,000 for the organization last week.

The annual Big 3 Fishing Tournament, which is the largest fundraiser for the organization, raised more funds this year than any other in the 5 years of the event.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is now on track to serve over 400 kids by 2020.

More than 300 people participated on over 43 boats. The largest fish caught was a 261 pound tuna by Sam Jaxtimer on the vessel “Thresher.” In the bass & blues category, the winners were Jeff Perry on “First Light” with a 38 pound bass, and Fran Kenney on “Gabbiano” with a 13.8 pound blue fish.

“This event brings together a love of fishing and our community, all while making a direct impact on the Cape & Islands and the kids we serve,” said JR Mell, Regional Director of BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands.
