Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cape Cod Meets Goal; Seeks More Volunteers

HYANNIS – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands met their campaign goal of “30 Guys in 30 Days” to recruit more male mentors on the Cape & Martha’s Vineyard.

But there is still a need for more volunteers.

“At that time we had over 92 kids on the waitlist, 68 of them being boys, so there was a real need for male mentors,” said J.R. Mell, Regional Director of the Boys and Girls Club.

“I am truly impressed by the number of men in our community who stepped forward to become a mentor,” said Mell.

He noted that the organization has matched nearly all the men who have become volunteers from the campaign, but with over 50 boys remaining on their wait list, and 11 more referred since the campaign launched, the need hasn’t diminished.

“This campaign was very successful and has allowed us to match some of our boys who have waited longer than normal. However, the need for male mentors is still there,” said Mell.
