Big Brothers Big Sisters to Honor Sgt. Gannon

BOSTON – Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon will be posthumously honored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay Thursday night for his years of dedication to the organization.

Gannon will be named the Big of the Year, recognizing his work as a Big Brother to 12-year-old Rylee.

“Sergeant Gannon went above and beyond the call of duty by committing to volunteer as a ‘Big Brother’ mentor in his spare time,” the organization wrote. “Sergeant Gannon was the definition of a community-minded officer, setting an excellent example for Rylee, who wants to follow in Sergeant Gannon’s footsteps to become a police officer when he grows up.”

The annual award recognizes a recipient for making a positive and lasting impact in the lives of local children.

Gov. Charlie Baker will present the award alongside Wendy Foster, the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. The ceremony is planned for the Sheraton Boston Grand Ballroom at 5:45 p.m.

Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson will accept the award on Gannon’s behalf and will talk about Gannon’s impact on the community.

Frederickson will also give an update on K9 Nero, who was shot alongside Gannon on April 12 in Marstons Mills and is still recovering.
