Bird Counters Needed Across Cape Cod for Annual Count

HYANNIS – Do you have quick eyes and a knack for counting?

The Audubon Society needs you!

Every year around this time, the annual Christmas Bird Count kicks off throughout the Americas to keep track of bird populations and dispersal – even counting in your own backyard can help scientists collect meaningful data.

This is an all-day event held on different days depending on who you count with and where you do the counting.

The Cape Cod Bird Club has split up the count into sections. Buzzards Bay and much of the Cape had their counts already, but the Mid Cape area and Truro will have their own on the 29^th.

If you count with them, they’ll have different experts at spots located throughout the area to help log the information – you can serve in full-day and half-day increments.

Of course, you can always just sit at the window and submit directly to Mass Audubon if you don’t feel like getting outside.

Even if you only count a few birds here and there, you’ll be helping ornithologists learn more about something we really don’t know much about, since there are so many birds in the world to monitor.
