Birding for Beginners Workshop to Take Place at Smith Cold Brook Preserve

HARWICH PORT – With lots of bird song and activity in the air, spring is a great time to practice your birding skills.

Sponsored by the Harwich Conservation Trust, join Todd Kelley at HCT’s largest preserve, the 66-acre Robert F. Smith Cold Brook Preserve in Harwich Port, for a “Birding for Beginners” workshop.

The workshop takes place along HCT’s Bluebird Trail of nest boxes that host bluebirds, tree swallows, and other songbird species.

Learn how to recognize and identify birds by sight and sound.

Distinguish telltale field marks such as the size and shape of their bills, body size, wing shape, flight patterns, and general behavior as well as their plumage.

Also learn to decipher the habitats that particular birds prefer as Todd teaches how to interpret bird tracks and sign.

The event takes place on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with a rain date on Monday at the same time.
