CENTERVILLE – Bishop Edgar da Cunha was in Centerville last night for the latest in a series of Listening Sessions being held throughout the Fall River Diocese.

The Bishop heard from Our Lady of Victory parishioners and church leaders regarding a number of issues facing community and promoted the Diocese’s Catholic Charities Appeal which is coming up in May.

“One of the things that I’m impressed with is how concerned they are for the future of The Church,” said da Cunha, “How they want to serve the church with their gifts and their talents, many of them said please let me know what I can do, I want to be of service, I want to help.”

The Bishop also addressed the recent realignment of Catholic education on Cape Cod which will go into effect this summer.

“I think the realignment, Buzzards Bar with Hyannis, I think that is a sign of strength in our schools,” said da Cunha, “We are not eliminate the schools, we are not closing schools, we are just realigning so that we can be stronger to provide a Catholic education to all of the families who want it.”

Under the plan St. Margaret Regional School in Buzzards Bay is joining with St. Francis Xavier Preparatory School and St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis to create one pre-k through 12th grade diocesan school.

St. Margaret’s will continue to house pre-k through 4th grade students with middle schoolers moving to St. Francis Prep.
