Blood drives slated across the Cape

CAPE COD – Yarmouth Police are working hard to help Cape Cod Healthcare obtain blood to help save lives. Remember all blood collected here will stay on Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Hospital Blood Center inside Cape Cod Hospital is open daily for donations.

Thinking of Giving Blood?
When you donate blood, you give someone the gift of life. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a big difference and help others. And if you donate blood to Cape Cod Healthcare, your donation stays on the Cape to benefit your friends and neighbors rather than being transferred outside our community.

Why Donate Blood?
Blood is a need that never goes away. Our hospitals perform more than 7,500 transfusions per year for such things as elective and emergency surgery, anemia, bleeding disorders and massive blood loss due to trauma. It’s important to know that:

  • About one in seven people entering a hospital needs blood
  • Red blood cells have a limited shelf life—just 42 days—so they must be constantly replenished
  • One pint of blood can save up to two lives
  • There is no substitute for human blood

Below is a list of other places you can go to give blood on Cape Cod in October:

  • October 16th – Eagle Pond – Dennis
  • October 19th – Eastham Elks
  • October 20th – Harwich Community Center
  • October 21st – Royal Megansett – Falmouth.
  • October 22nd – Stoneman Medical Center – Sandwich
  • October 23rd – Cape Cod Museum of Natural History
  • October 26th – Brewster Medical
  • October 27th – Wendy’s – Orleans
  • October 29th – Chatham Community Center
