BOURNE – The final steel beam of Bourne’s new elementary school was placed Wednesday morning during a topping off ceremony.
The new $40 million facility will replace the aging Peebles Elementary School.
Bourne Superintendent Steven Lamarche said the event was exciting for the school system and the current students of Peebles who signed the final beam before it was put into place.
“Education is all about memorable moments and we them to be positive,” said Lamarche.
“And this is a very positive moment.”
The new school will house students from grades 3 through 5 and will be in the same complex with the middle and high schools.
“For 12 years of their education they will be here on this site, this campus with this school here – with the middle school and the high school in one place,” Lamarche said. “So this means one community. It means one great experience for all of our students at one time.”
Lamarche said it was important that voters in town supported the new school as Peebles is no longer adequate.
“The innovativeness of Peebles Elementary School has certainly been outgrown for a number of years now but structurally there are some significant issues,” Lamarche said.
