BOURNE – The Bourne landfill could soon be expanding. The town is in discussions to purchase an 11 acre parcel of land directly south of the existing landfill.
Stephen Mealy, the chair of the Board of Selectmen, said the purchase would be a benefit to the town and increase revenues from the landfills operations.
“Of course, any additional land would enable us to extend the operational life of the landfill by several, three or four, years,” he said.
Mealy says the purchase will have to be approved at town meeting.
“One of the articles within that meeting will be a price, that has not yet been determined, and a request from the townspeople to authorize monies from the existing landfill operations to pay for that new piece of property,” Mealy said.
Mealy said the land purchase would be an excellent opportunity for the town and hopes it is supported by residents.
