BOURNE – Bourne’s Recreation Director recently gave the town’s board of selectman an update on the department’s programs and future goals.
Krissanne Caron spoke about the level of current involvement. “Registrations are up just a little bit and we do anticipate an increase. We’re continuing to offer new programs, so were drawing in more families which ultimately is our goal,” she said.
Caron pointed out that 285 children signed up for the SWISH basketball program and thanked the parents who volunteer as coaches and offer suggestions.
All of the summer programs were full, with some having to resort to a waiting list, something the department tries very hard to avoid.
Caron spoke of a new activity planned for later this winter. “We’re going to be offering Friday night whiffle ball once we end SWISH in February, in that shoulder season before baseball, before it’s warm enough to go outside. We’re hoping to get a good turn-out for that,” said Caron.
One of the most popular offerings with adults is pickleball. It is currently played three days a week, but participants are asking for more.
