Bourne Shuts Down Stair Access to Local Beach

BOURNE – Visitors who use the ramp at Indian Trail and Crab Rock Way to access Sagamore Beach will have to find a different way to get there this summer.

The path was immediately shutdown on the recommendation from Public Works Director George Sala after the staircase at the bottom was found to be structurally unsafe.

One of the supports holding up the staircase came loose. Town Administrator Tom Guerino indicated the damage was weather related.

“Do not look for a quick fix on this,” Guerino said. “This is not going to be repaired quickly. It’s going to take some time.”

Guerino said the repairs may not be made until the end of the summer.

There are currently no funds available to make the repairs quickly.

“It’ll take a reserve fund transfer, but I don’t want to ask for any money until I know what the scope of the repairs are,” Guerino said.

Guerino said the closure will be an inconvenience for a lot of people.
