Bourne Voters Approve Funding for Transfer Station

BOURNE – Bourne voters approved allocating additional funding for the town’s transfer station, allowing it to reopen after it was closed last month.

At a Special Town Meeting Monday at Bourne High School, voters approved moving $600,000 to the transfer station budget, meaning the site could start operating again on Tuesday. The voice vote was unanimous and the meeting took mere minutes to complete.

The station closed down in May after it exhausted its annual $600,000 budget due to unanticipated costs.

$400,000 was placed in the expense budget and $200,000 will go into a reserve fund. The money was reallocated from the station’s retained earnings, a move that needed town meeting approval.
