Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod Holding Summer Golf Program

MASHPEE – The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod inviting children and teens to participate in a Summer Golf Program that will be held at the Willowbend Country Club and Holly Ridge Country Club.

The golf lessons will be given by Jim Rondeau, a U.S. Golf Teacher Federation certified instructor, on Tuesday mornings for seven weeks beginning on July 11 and ending on August 22.

The lessons will run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.

Thanks to the Massachusetts Golf Association’s First Tee Program, 15 children can take free golf lessons once a week this summer.

“We are grateful to Jim Rondeau, who is returning to teach the program for 9th summer, the 1st Tee Program, and Willowbend, Holly Ridge and the Ridge Club golf courses for making this opportunity available to our kids,” said Jim Kiley, the president of the board of directors at the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod.

Children must be, or become, members of the Boys & Girls Club to participate.

For Club members, the program is free.

The Club has announced that they have a reduced membership fee for just the summer golf program of $30, but it is only good for the duration of the program and scholarship money is available to offset it with documented need.

Children will also need signed parental permission slips to participate.

Call the Club at 508-477-8845 to register your child.

“We are pleased to be partnering with First Tee for the ninth year in a row,” said Ruth Provost, Boys & Girls Club executive director.  “Jim Rondeau has scheduled the program to be convenient for parents before work, and it is close to the Boys & Girls Club, so our campers, as well as other Cape kids, can participate.  The kids get to learn golf from a pro, play on a world class course, and still take part in our field trip based summer camp.  We can’t thank Willowbend Country Club, Holly Ridge, and the Ridge Club enough for providing a course for these kids to learn on, and First Tee for sponsoring it again this year.”

As part of the curriculum, the children progress through a series of golf lessons where they are introduced to the different aspects of a golf course including the green, tee, fairway, rough, bunkers and water hazards.

They are also introduced to the basic elements of the game of golf and the swing including distance and accuracy control, course management, how to score, pace of play, proper grip, stance, and posture.

Differing amounts of on-course play take place from week two through week seven.

In addition to golf, the participants are introduced to the nine core values inherent to the game including honesty, integrity, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, sportsmanship, judgment, respect and courtesy.
