The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod will be hosting a Narcan Training and Overdose Prevention Hour on Thursday, June 5.

The training session, open to the public for free, will be held at the Club’s Mashpee location at 31 Frank E. Hicks Drive in Mashpee from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Those who participate will be provided with certification as well as a free Narcan kit from the Massachusetts’s Department of Health upon completion of the training.

Narcan is used to reverse an opioid overdose, which is one of the leading causes of death in Massachusetts.

Opioids include heroin, OxyContin, methadone, fentanyl, morphine and many prescription pain medications.

Narcan blocks the opioid’s effects and restores normal breathing when sprayed into the nose of someone who has overdosed.
